5 Mistaken Beliefs About Happiness

Created by Jimmie Burroughs

So what does it take to make us happy? According to the professionals most everything we think would make us content is dead wrong. Here are 5 things we are most wrong about:

  1. Happiness comes from getting what you want.

2. Happiness relies on external conditions outside the mind.

3. Happiness comes from having a good job, supervisor, coworkers, and salary.

4. Being famous creates happiness.

5. Being rich makes you content.

Happiness comes from getting what you need.

The time in my life that I believed the material things would make me satisfied has long since gone. I've had enough to understand they will not. They do create a small happiness at first however it quickly goes away as the newness wears off , leaving you right where you started. All though my life I have gotten the majority of what I wanted, nevertheless it has made tiny difference as far as happiness.

Happiness is founded upon external conditions outside the mind.

Is pleasure, where a person lives, the house they live in, the car they drive or other things outside the mind what brings happiness?

I write to you today not only from research but also from personal experience of which I've had plenty. For example, when I was only 22, I got the automobile I had been dreaming of since highschool.

It was my first new auto; a beautiful red convertible with a white cloth top. I was in N. Y and had a good paying job; saved the money and paid for it with hundred dollar bills.

I also purchased a new wardrobe of attire; took a 6 month sabbatical from work; went back to my home city and for half a year slept until I was prepared to get up; went where I wanted, which was a crisscross of the US from north to south and from east to west, 35,000 miles in one year.

I had a date with a new girl each night if I wished it. I partied and nightclubed throughout the week. I don't suppose I was too bad looking because I was voted the most handsome guy of my senior class. So I'd about all I ever thought would make me satisfied. Instead , I look back on those days as the most sad of my life. It was only as a result of a gorgeous 19 year old decent, young lady who came into my life that saved me from self destructing.

Happiness is in the mind and has nothing to do with external things

Happiness comes from having a good job, chief, work-mates, and a decent income.

There are so very many who have difficulty with their job and really detest it. First of all, many do not make an attempt to contribute 100%, and do not earn merit raises. Neither do they try and have a satisfactory relationship with the boss and co-workers. Whether or not all those things did work out, you continue to can't rely on it to make you satisfied.

Being famous creates happiness.

51 % of high school youngsters said in a survey that their ultimate goal was to become famous. Is happiness found in a star standing? Not especially, because famous folks are 4 times more probable to commit suicide than average folk. Even though it's not suicide, everyone has seen famous entertainers self-destruct right before our eyes; most lately, the beloved Whitney Houston, and right prior to her, Michael Jackson and a complete string of others too numerous to say. If anything, it appears much more hard for movie stars and entertainers to ever achieve happiness then almost anybody else.

The public struggles of celebs and performers are reported on TV and in the made public media almost daily. As an example, the quantity of movie stars who are dependent on cocaine and treated in rehabilitation centers far outweighs the average per capita according to numeric statistics. These numbers make megastar happiness appear to be just about impossible.

Famous people have to give up their freedom to go and come as they please; employ body guards to protect them, and endure a nearly constant stream of false claims and undesirable publicity. Even their families aren't safe to go out alone.

Being rich makes you happy.

What quantity of happiness depends on material wealth anyhow? The answers will surprise you.

Happiness of rich people is no bigger than anybody else, according to survey statistical data!

World studies conducted on happiness have produced surprising results. Where would you imagine the most happy folks in the world live? Would you say The United. States, Canada, Australia or somewhere in Europe? If so , you are terribly wrong!

65 countries were studied in 2003 and the results revealed in the English magazine New Scientist. The survey learned that the happiest nations in the world with the most satisfied and hopeful people are Nigeria, Mexico and Puerto Rico, with Nigeria leading the list as being the most happy country internationally. These are also among some of the most impoverished countries in the world.

Probably the wealthiest man in history was King Solomon of the Old Testament. He writes of his pursuit to find happiness in the book of Ecclesiastes and determines that all is vanity. He lived in a mansion, and had 900 of the most beautiful ladies of the kingdom. He planted gorgeous gardens. He had it all.

So what makes us happy?

Here it is: learning the way to be content with what we have.

Conclusion

I'm really not a religious Zealot like some misinformed would like to label me. I have no desire to try and cram my beliefs down anyone's throat. I am simply an standard human being who has seen a lot and experienced a lot , who has discovered that the most happiness I have ever known has come from my relationship with The Lord God . You can believe it, or not believe it. You can accept it or reject it; it'll have no affect on me at all. Nonetheless I would be greatly pleased if you did accept it and discovered the same contentment as I.
